New for the 2014 Formula One season will be that every driver will have his own number on his car. This number will stay with the driver through his entire Formula One career (with the exception that the Wordl Champion will be using number 1).
I was already confused when I saw Alonso’s F14-T with the number 14 on it. According to the previous regulations, he should have had number 5 or 6.
The drivers entry list, with car number for the 2014 FIA Formula One World Championship is as follows:
Each driver was invited by the FIA to state his preferred race number, with the driver who finished higher in the 2013 standings being favoured if the same number was requested more than once.
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel chose number 5, but as reigning world champion has taken up his option to run with number 1 this season. Meanwhile, number 13 – not normally used due to its association with poor luck – has been chosen by Lotus’s Pastor Maldonado.

*For the duration of his F1 career, Vettel chose number 5.
Sebastian Vettel selected number 5 because, as he said, it has been an important number througout his career. He had number 5 when he won in 2001 the Junior Kart Europe-Championship and when he was crowned Worldchampion Formula One for the first time in 2010.
The coming year, Vettel is aiming for a 5th title in Formula One…
Lewis Hamilton has selected number 44 because this was the number he had during the beginngin of his career, driving karts.
Nico Rosberg is using number 6 because this is the number his father, Keke Rosberg had while winning his Formula One championship with Williams.
Kimi Raikkonen picked number 7 because he had the number last year as well, finishing a surprising fifth place in the drivers’ championship.
Jenson Button is using number 22 because this is the same number he had in 2009, winning the Formula One championship with Brawn GP.
Kevin Magnussen selected number 20 because he had this number last year, winning the Formula Renault 3.5 title in 2013.
Daniel Ricciardo selected number 3, because one of his idols had this number througout his career, NASCAR-Legend Dale Earnhardt.
