House Migdia is located on Carrer Migdia in Granollers outside Barcelona, Spain.

To comply with the clients requirements, to have a house with plenty of natural light and a house with the possibility of increasing in size through the years, the architect firm SAU Taller de Arquitectura proposed a clear action: to bring services and storage areas to the blank walls leaving a central core which articulates the space around it. With this decision they got the street and courtyard façades free of program. Those façades are facing north and south so they can become a light and ventilation filters. Another consequence of this decision is getting a free and flexible section which will aloud future light slabs to be built if the inhabitants need them. With this aim, concealed anchorages where left into the concrete to aloud simple timber structure to be built in the future.

A multifunctional garage space is located at ground floor level, related to both, street and courtyard, is a space to have familiar meals or courtyard related activities. Facing south at first floor level we find the dinner area, next to it, and facing north we find the kitchen. The bedroom is linked to the living area through a double sliding door that gives different levels of privacy. At roof level and thanks to the section flexibility we find two terraces, the first one, protected with a vegetal pergola is more private, the second is an open one and works as a solarium.

Granollers is a city in central Catalonia, about 30 kilometers northeast of Barcelona. It is the capital and most densely populated city of the comarca of Vallès Oriental.

Carrer de la Sardana is a street in Sitges, south of Barcelona, Spain.

Sitges is a town about 35 kilometres southwest of Barcelona, in Catalonia, renowned worldwide for its Film Festival and Carnival. Located between the Garraf Massif and the sea, it is known for its beaches, nightspots, and historical sites.

While the roots of Sitges’ artistic reputation date back to the late 19th century, when painter Santiago Rusiñol took up residence there during the summer, the town became a centre for the 1960s counterculture in mainland Spain, in Francoist Spain, and became known as “Ibiza in miniature”.

Today, Sitges’ economy is based on tourism and culture offering more than 4,500 hotel beds, half of them in four-star hotels.

Almost 35% of the approximately 26,000 permanent inhabitants are from the Netherlands, the UK, France and Scandinavia, whose children attend international schools in the area. There are 17 beaches. Sitges was also the site of the annual Bilderberg conference held in June 2010.

Sitges has been referred to as the Saint-Tropez of Spain, with property prices approaching those of the most expensive European cities, the main reason for this being the setting by the sea and the surrounding Parc Natural del Garraf. Proximity to Barcelona-El Prat Airport is also a major advantage.

Llop is a cafe with kitchen located on Carrer del Carme 42 in Barcelona, Spain.

At this location you find Jardines del Doctor Fleming.

The city of Barcelona pays homage to the British scientist Alexander Fleming in two locations: on Carrer Doctor Fleming in the Eixample and in the gardens of Doctor Fleming in the Raval.

In May 1948, Fleming visited Barcelona at the request of his friend, Dr. Lluís Trias de Bes, to open the research department of the Municipal Infectious Diseases Hospital (now Hospital del Mar). During his 12-day visit, the Nobel Prize winner gave five lectures: three in the hospital, one in the Royal Academy of Medicine, where he was named academic of honour, and one in the University of Barcelona.

In one of his speeches, the scientist acknowledged the warm reception he and his wife received from the people of the city: “What has never happened to us in any city, of the many that we have visited, is the spontaneous demonstration of affection on the part of all the social classes that has taken place in Barcelona.” The press reported this cordial welcome at the time, describing how Fleming and his wife were applauded by the locals whenever seen in public.

Although he discovered penicillin in 1928, it wasn’t until the Second World War that Fleming received recognition. The demand for medical assistance both during and after the war resulted in a rapid increase in the antibiotic’s usage. In 1945, Fleming received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discovery, along with Howard Walter Florey and Ernst Boris Chain, with whom he collaborated in research. La Vanguardia wrote at the time of his visit: “Officially invited by the City Council of Barcelona as guest of honour, in a few short hours Sir Alexander Fleming will be with us, brilliant discoverer of the wonderful penicillin, which has saved so many human lives from certain death.”

In 1956, a bust of the scientist was inaugurated in the gardens of Doctor Fleming, above a small water fountain with a commemorative plaque, which reads ‘Barcelona to Sir Alexander Fleming’. It can still be found on the wall of the building that houses the headquarters of the Royal Academy of Medicine. Over the years, several additional expressions of gratitude have been shown to Fleming and his discovery, including a plaque erected by Barcelona’s firefighters and, for decades, the laying of flowers at the bust by the prostitutes of the city.

Pastisseria Jansana Gluten Free is located on Carrer de Balmes 106 in Barcelona, Spain.

At Pastisseria Jansana Gluten Free you can buy and consume Gluten Free bakery products.

Carrer de Balmes, named after the Catalan philosopher and ecclesiastic Jaume Balmes, is one of the most important avenues in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain). It was devised in 1859 as part of Ildefons Cerdà urban plan.

Balmes is along Carrer Muntaner the longest road stretching from the sea towards the mountainside. It starts in the crossing of Pelai and Bergara streets and crosses the Eixample and Sant Gervasi districts, ending in Plaça John Fitzgerald Kennedy, by Avinguda del Tibidabo and Tramvia Blau. The Sant Gervasi part of the street was constructed after 1908.

It is considered the central street of Eixample, with Dreta de l’Eixample to its right, and Esquerra de l’Eixample to its left. As with most of the other large streets in the area, it is 20 metres wide, with the difference that its sidewalks are less broad than the average.

The street is expected to come under an extensive reform project in 2009, which will see its five lanes be reduced to four – one of them reserved for buses and taxis like it is today. The pavements on either side will also be enlarged and trees will be planted to make the busy street more pedestrian-friendly.

Carrer de Balmes is also part of the so-called Gaixample, Barcelona’s gay village and hosts one of its most famous clubs, Arena.

Banc Sabadell is headquartered at the crossing of Carrer de Balmes with Avinguda Diagonal. Pompeu Fabra University owns a building in this street.

Urban Smak is a restaurant located in the Stormen building on Västergatan in Växjö in Småland, Sweden.

The wood investment in Växjö has led to private entrepreneurs also wanting to invest in wooden building projects in the city. Joachim Widerstedt, HusQuben, has together with Arkitektbolaget created an infill project in Växjö’s grid plan which shows that with creativity you can build new thinking in old environment.

The ideas of what would happen in Kv Stormen, a glance south of Växjö’s pulse vein Storgatan, had already come a long way when the Arkitektbolaget came into the picture. The task for us was to design a volume that would breathe wood and new thinking, and to create as much rentable space as possible. The idea of creating a flying box that protrudes a bit across Västergatan’s street space and also advertises itself against Storgatan was born. An existing wall was retained and the new wooden box keeps a short distance from the existing one in all directions. The new building provides a nice industrial farm environment, a fourth wall facing the street and an already beautiful room in the city has been further strengthened and beautified. In the ground floor there is a restaurant and the other three floors contain offices.

The building’s design is unique in Sweden. The walls are made of solid wood boards from Austria and the joists consist of elements from a manufacturer in Switzerland. The joists are designed as large hollow beams in wood. In the cavity, there is either sand to improve the sound reduction or heat insulation. The outer layer of the house is made of unpainted wood boards in larch exterior and spruce inside.
