Krapperups slott is located on Krapperups kyrkoväg in Nyhamnsläge, close to Höganäs in Skåne, Sweden.

The Krapperup estate dates from medieval times, but the existing manor, except the wings, is from the 16th century. When the Podebusk family built the castle, Skåne was still part of Denmark. The seven-pointed star, which is Gyldenstierne’s coat-of-arms, was added to the facades at the beginning of the 1600s. Denmark lost Skåne to Sweden in 1658, with Krapperup’s first Swedish owner being Maria Sophia de la Gardie. In the 1700s, the Hildebrands and then the von Kochen family owned the estate, and it was finally inherited by the Gyllenstierna family, with the seven-pointed star, in the 19th century.

The state rooms, with their Victorian interiors, are all situated in the main building, leaving the wings for the family’s private apartments. The gardens, covering about 80 acres, developed during the 19th century from their previous formal and utilitarian design into the present romantic layout with winding paths, carp ponds, an abundance of rhododendrons and an attractive rose garden.

2017-krapperups-slott-in-nyhamnslage-wikipedia

The former estate in tail of Krapperup was converted into a foundation in 1967. This was with the aim of preserving the castle and the gardens in their surrounding rural landscape. The estate continues to be run as before by the family, with a well functioning agricultural holding of about 5,000 acres.

The old farm buildings around the former stableyard now house a museum and art gallery, a music hall and a small café and shop for visitors. The manor is open for prebooked visits only, but the gardens are accessible throughout the whole year.

The Krapperup foundation supports scientific research within the region and has certain humanitarian undertakings, with several grants being awarded annually.

Råda säteri is located on Säteriallén in Mölnlycke.

Råda säteri is a herrgård or country house in Råda parish in Härryda. The manor is located near Rådasjön, right near Molnlycke not far from Göteborg.

The main building and the wings were designed by the Swedish-British architect Sir William Chambers (1723-96). Chambers assisted also with drawings to the farmhouse main building, which was built in 1770-72. His younger sister Sara (1724-85) became a widow in 1770 and married two years later on with the owner of the manor, Martin Törngren.

The main building is constructed entirely of timber, and dressed with panels, the panel type that most resembled the stone building’s facade. The building is the style neoclassical with symmetry both in terms of room allocation as external design.

2017-rada-sateri-in-molnlycke

Externally, the building has very little has changed. Internally, it has undergone minor changes in the downstairs when the building fitted up inn in 1974.

The two wing buildings were erected simultaneously with the main building in 1772. The west was destroyed, however, in a fire in the mid-1800s. The existing west wing was built in in 1887.

Since 1969, Råda säteri is owned by the Härryda Community. In the main building is now a restaurant located.

The Bailiffscourt Chapel is a deconsecrated chapel in the grounds of Bailiffscourt Hotel, a luxury hotel near the hamlet of Atherington in West Sussex, England. Originally associated with the Norman Abbey of Séez, it was founded in the 11th century and rebuilt in its present simple Gothic form in the 13th century. It later fell out of use, but after Atherington’s former church was destroyed by coastal erosion it was used again for public worship for a time—and as late as 1952 the building was again in use as a chapel of ease. Situated outside Bailiffscourt—a mock-medieval mansion built in 1935 by Lord Moyne on the site of an ancient manor house—on the only stretch of open seafront land for miles in each direction, the chapel is now used principally for wedding and civil ceremony blessings. English Heritage has listed it at Grade II* for its architectural and historical importance.

2016-bailiffscourt-hotel-in-climping-uk-03

The parish of Climping, sometimes spelt Clymping, covers a large coastal area next to the English Channel and the River Arun in West Sussex. The land, a combination of silty brickearth and alluvium, is prone to erosion, and large parts of the parish have been lost to the sea since the Middle Ages. The former villages of Ilsham, Cudlow and Atherington are now depopulated, their former churches have been destroyed, and their parishes combined with Clymping.

Westerkade is a street in the Scheepvaartskwartier (Shipping Quarter) in Rotterdam and runs from the ferry harbor on the banks of the Nieuwe Maas to the Parkkade.

Around 1850 they began a large-scale urban expansion towards the west. This was known as the Tweede Nieuwe Werk (Second New Work). The street Westersingel, Westplein and Westerstraat recall this westward expansion. For 1850, the northerly Westerstraat was the southernmost dike. This was part of the Eerste Nieuwe Werk (First Newer Work). The Newer Work can therefore be seen as an alternative name for the Maritime Quarter. After this there was a more southern dike built that can actually be seen as the Willemskade and westerly located Westerkade.

Rotterdam is a city in the Netherlands, located in South Holland, within the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt river delta at the North Sea. Its history goes back to 1270 when a dam was constructed in the Rotte river by people settled around it for safety. In 1340 Rotterdam was granted city rights by the Count of Holland and slowly grew into a major logistic and economic centre. Nowadays it is home to Europe’s largest port and has a population of 633,471 (2014, city proper), ranking second in the Netherlands.

The city of Rotterdam is known for the Erasmus University, riverside setting, lively cultural life and its maritime heritage. The near-complete destruction of Rotterdam’s city centre during World War II (known as the Rotterdam Blitz) has resulted in a varied architectural landscape including sky-scrapers, which are an uncommon sight in other Dutch cities. Rotterdam is home to some world-famous architecture from renowned architects like Rem Koolhaas, Piet Blom, Ben van Berkel and others. Recently Rotterdam was listed eighth in The Rough Guide Top 10 Cities to Visit and fifth in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2016 and was voted 2015 European City of the Year by the Academy of Urbanism.

Château d’Aigle is located on Place du Château 1 in Aigle, Switzerland, close to Laka Geneva.

Aigle Castle is a castle in the municipality of Aigle of the Canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance.

The Barons of Aigle were first mentioned in 1179. At that time they had a small fortification, that became the center of the modern castle, along the road over the Col du Pillon and Col des Mosses passes of the Rhone. However, only traces of this first castle have been archaeologically discovered.

In the second half of the 13th Century, Aigle expanded and received a city charter. The castle was rebuilt, with a fortified donjon and a curtain wall.

In the 14th Century, the Lords of Compey inherited the rights of the Saillon family. They were also vassals of the Counts of Savoy and made Aigle into their headquarters. They added turrets and in 1450 built a massive tower in the south corner. This tower was an example of late French Donjon architecture.

2016-chateau-daigle-01

Starting in the mid-15th Century, Bern tried to control the city, to gain control of the important mountain passes into the Rhone Valley. Their first unsuccessful attempt was in 1464. The Burgundian Wars (1474–1477), which brought the Swiss Confederation into conflict with Duke Charles the Bold of Burgundy, brought another opportunity. Because Savoy had joined the Burgundian side, Swiss forces attacked the Savoy town of Aigle and devastated the castle. Jean de Compey had to flee and was killed soon afterward in Vevey. His son died fighting for Charles the Bold.

After the war, the Compey family were unable to recover their title to the town or castle. Bern had the castle rebuilt again in 1488 and made it the seat of a provincial governor. Aigle became one of the first French speaking districts in Bern. The representatives of Bern resided here until the French invasion and creation of the Helvetic Republic in 1798.

In 1804, the castle was acquired by the community of Aigle and until 1976 it was used as a cantonal jail. Since then, it has been a museum open to the public.

Today the castle is home to Musée de la Vigne et du Vin (Vine and wine museum). Next to the castle gates is the Maison de la Dîme, which houses the Musée de l’Étiquette (Wine-Labels Museum).

Le Lacustre Restaurant is located on Quai Jean-Pascal Delamuraz in Lausanne, Switzerland. Ouchy is a port, and popular lakeside resort located south of the city of Lausanne in Switzerland at the edge of Lake Geneva.

Le Lacustre in Lausanne is a restaurant that offers a Swiss brasserie cuisine, specializing in the grills and fish of Lake Geneva, that you can fully admire the restaurant located on the quays of Ouchy. Whether it is the large modern terrace or the design interior room with large bay windows, the restaurant always enjoy the incredible view of the lake and the Alps.

Among the gourmet dishes on the Lacustre menu, which are passengers’ regular customers, are the charbonnade and the gallows of the Lacustre. These are enjoyed in the Grill Room, where the restaurant staff cooks the meat under the eyes of the guests. This spectacle is not to be missed, especially for the gallows which consists of flambéing beef. The Lacustre wine list in Lausanne has the advantage of being explained in detail to guide the novice among this wide selection of Swiss and French wines. All the spaces of the Lacustre can be arranged for private or professional celebrations.

From the sublime terrace with panoramic view, one imagines a lady in high waist bikini sipping a Martini on the deck of a sailboat, posing facing the lens of Slim Aarons. The Hamptons? Saint Tropez? No, Ouchy! Hidden from traffic and hordes of passers-by – recently armed with smartphones in search of Pokémon – The Lacustre, almost as old as Lake Geneva, has reigned for many years on its landing stage, unperturbed. Big block of concrete with charm a little obsolete, very prized of the tourists coming down from the CGN, one went there to eat of the charcoal and cuts Denmark with grandpa. And for the extraordinary view of the lake and France. Closed for more than six months, here he reopens with discretion. The old regulars scream at the scandal, the change is indeed radical.

If the big kitsch swan above, he still welcomes at the entrance of the restaurant, the decor has changed from old-fashioned to vintage: suspended loupiotes, American style diner benches, original tiling, delightfully seventies wallpaper. The new tenants of the Lausanne seraglio went to hunt pieces from the time when the building was built (in the early 1960s), destroyed false ceilings and installed a wood-burning oven. Their ambition is to succeed in making pizzas like in Italy, and to reconquer the Lausanne clientele sometimes chilly to make a few minutes of subway to reach the banks of the lake.

The menu, minimalist for the time, proposes pizzas, salad and pasta. We taste everything: it’s delicious. The ice creams are artisanal, the féra leaves straight from the lake. The official inauguration is planned for the end of the summer, the decoration will continue to evolve and we are promised brunches on weekends and a kitchen changing with the seasons. In the evening, the staff have fun playing Italian pop discs, which are a bit ashamed to love. And we are surprised to order another Old Fashioned by singing Adriano Celentano against the waves of Lake Geneva, while the Summer Triangle caresses us with its sparkling light.

2016 – Carrer de l’Hostal d’en Sol in Barcelona, Spain (Google Streetview)

Carrer de l’Hostal d’en Sol is a street in the Gothic Quarter (or Barrio Gótico in Spanish) in Barcelona, Spain.

The Gothic Quarter is the centre of the old city of Barcelona. It stretches from La Rambla to Via Laietana, and from the Mediterranean seafront to Ronda de Sant Pere. It is a part of Ciutat Vella district.

The quarter was built primarily in the late 19th and early 20th century, though several buildings date from medieval times. Remains of the squared Roman Wall can be seen around Tapineria and Sots-Tinent Navarro to the north, Avinguda de la Catedral and Plaça Nova to the west and Carrer de la Palla to the south. El Call, the medieval Jewish quarter, is located within this area too.

The Barri Gòtic retains a labyrinthine street plan, with many small streets opening out into squares. Most of the quarter is closed to regular traffic although open to service vehicles and taxis.

Entering the Gothic Quarter is to make for Barcelona’s origins, the place where two thousand years ago the Romans founded Bàrcino. Today, we can follow the traces of that Roman city thanks to preserved fragments of the walls that encompass a perimeter which still marks the typical layout of a Roman town. The cardo, located along today’s Carrer Llibreteria, the decumanus along Carrer Ciutat and the Forum, where Plaça Sant Jaume is today, in the centre. Very close to this square, going up Carrer Paradís to the doorway of the ramblers’ club, the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya, you can find a millstone that signals the highest point of Mont Tàber, a hill rising 16 m above sea level and, inside, hidden in the patio of this Gothic building, four columns are preserved from the Roman temple that stood at this point.

2014 - The making of...

2014 – The making of…(@henrikotoson on Instagram)

The narrow streets and little squares of this neighbourhood invite you to wander around and let yourself be surprised by its charm and always lively atmosphere. There are many curious little corners, like Plaça Traginers, under one of the towers on the Roman walls; Plaça Sant Just, with the oldest medieval fountain in the city and an imposing Gothic church; and the Baroque Plaça Sant Felip Neri, with a central fountain that fills it with freshness.

Painters like Picasso, Casas, Novell and Russinyol have strolled through the Gothic Quarter looking for inspiration before entering the Quatre Gats cafe, on Carrer Montsió. Gaudí also walked here as he took his daily saunter to the church of Sant Felip Neri, as did the architect Domènech i Montaner on his way to find inspiration for the Palau de la Música. Thousands of visitors walk through the Barri Gòtic everyday, following in the footsteps of history.

The Gothic Quarter is one of two extremely popular pickpocketing hotspots in Barcelona, the other being La Rambla. It is a major problem in both areas of the city. Tourists are advised to be wary when in these areas.

Carrer d’Angel J Baixeras is a street in the Gothic Quarter (or Barrio Gótico in Spanish) in Barcelona, Spain. At this location, the Spanish Postal services Correus has a postal office, hence the many yellow cars in the street today.

Angel J Baixeras was an Spanish architect and urbanist that lived between 1834 and 1892. He is mainly known for the creation of an urban project of reform of the old centre of Barcelona, the Plan of interior reform of Barcelona (1878). At the end of the 19th century, the City of Barcelona planned the expansion of its city in the Plan de Ensanche, elaborated by Ildefonso Cerdá in 1859. This plan foresaw the opening of three major avenues in the old town: two connecting the Ensanche with The coast (Muntaner and Pau Claris-Via Layetana) and another in perpendicular sense (Avenue of the Cathedral).

The Gothic Quarter is the centre of the old city of Barcelona. It stretches from La Rambla to Via Laietana, and from the Mediterranean seafront to Ronda de Sant Pere. It is a part of Ciutat Vella district.

Avenyn or formally known as Kungsportsavenyen, is the main boulevard of Göteborg, Sweden. Designed in the mid 19th century as the first middle-class residential district outside the bastions of the fortified heart of the city, the design of Avenyn was inspired by established formal European streets like the Champs-Élysées in Paris and the Ringstraße in Vienna. The layout is as a result of an international town planning competition.

With a total length of about 1000 meters, it stretches from the moat at the edge of the oldest part of Göteborg, and ends at the Götaplatsen square, where the Göteborg Museum of Art and other prime cultural institutions are located.

At the moat, it connects to the narrower street Östra Hamngatan (formerly a canal), and the Avenue takes its it full name after Kungsporten, the “King’s Gate” which was located at the point in the fortifications where Östra Hamngatan ends. The gate and the rest of the fortifications were demolished in the 19th century and replaced by a park.

Initially a residential street for the wealthy businessmen of the city, Avenyn passes the Stora teatern, the Neo-Renaissance theatre and opera building from 1859, and today has a major concentration of pubs, clubs and restaurants.
